Jacqueline Susann (Once Is Not Enough), Kurt Vonnegut Jr. (Breakfast of Champions), Alex Comfort (The Joy of Sex) and New York Times Book Reviewer Christopher Lehmann-Haupt participated in what turned out to be a brisk round of alternate back-patting and oneupmanship.
