...cannot think of a single composer, painter or writer who has not tracked at least one major inspiration to a bird, a tree, a rose. People automatically lose themselves in wordless reverence at the sight of a curlew or a silver cloud of anchovies or at the mournful wail of howler monkeys. Or they stare dumbly out at oceans, as if longing for their microbial past...
...years, the undergraduate arts community has raised its voice in a collective wail, bemoaning the dearth of performance space on campus...
...difficult to ascribe credit in this case because we don't know where Hutchence ends and his posthumous producing team begins. Regardless, the work rarely falters, except occasionally in the lyrics' poetic expression. It's very eerie, considering the scandal and controversy surrounding Hutchence's death to hear him wail "I just wanna slide away and come alive again" on the parting "Slide Away," but fortunately, the music makes you celebrate his art rather than lament the man's death. It's definitely a keeper...

From the smooth "Dazed and Confused," the band's bluesy influence shines through, in almost all tracks, including the laid-back "When the Levee Breaks." Rest assured, there are songs such as "Black Dog" that feature Page's trademark banshee wail, not to mention Plant's scorching guitar riffs, all of which became synonymous with the band's earlier studio sessions. The visceral thrills in "Rock and Roll" and "Communication Breakdown" hurtle with the subtlety of a rhinoceros on amphetamines, impelled by Bonham's frenetic percussion...

When, on "Hollywood Freaks," the most majestic track on Midnite Vultures, the background vocals rap-wail "Jockin my Mercedes/Probably have my baby/Shop at Old Navy/He wish he was a lady," Beck isn't making fun of rap, or even of people who shop at Old Navy. He knows all about this, and he isn't afraid to mimic it. And he hopes all the "Hollywood freaks," "b-boys," girls who "look so Israeli" and whom...
