...TIME: Can you walk through, after you leave Iowa, what challenges you are going to face in the next few states, what strengths you have in New Hampshire and South Carolina, and what the expectations should be of your campaign leaving Iowa? [Doing well in Iowa] should help up in New Hampshire. We understand that geographically there are three candidates that ought to do better than us in New Hampshire. John McCain is a very familiar product there, well-respected, strong organization, he's been running there for 12 years, I guess, or at least 10 years...

Across town, in a park in the tony neighborhood known as Defense Housing Authority, or DFA, four business associates discussed Pakistan's future after their regular afternoon walk. "People are afraid to air their opinions but as far as I know America sent Benazir and later killed her with the help of Pervez Musharraf," says M.A. Mohamed, who runs a car parts company. "I can confirm this idea." His friend and colleague Talat Mumtaz interjects: "No, no. no, America likes Benazir. Why would they kill her? You're being ridiculous...

Like the other films Apatow has been involved with, Walk Hard is a clever blend of very broad, occasionally raunchy gag-smithing and an unspoken, yet palpable, social shrewdness. For the moment, at least, this guy is somehow plugged into our half-formed, half-subversive thoughts. Walk Hard is actually talking about - well, all right, goofily alluding to - serious issues, though...

...That's all right with me. But I do think Walk Hard is a rather more dubious box office proposition than something like Knocked Up. Satire is ever a tough sell to the populist audience, which prefers sentiments of a more uplifting kind, while the crowd that might get a kick out of this film it will likely dismiss it as kid stuff. But call me a cynic, call me a curmudgeon, call me perverse - I loved every moment of Dewey Cox's story. I hope I'm not alone in that feeling...
