Casanova's Homecoming, by Arthur Schnitzler, deals with that celebrated scamp, charlatan and boudoir-athlete at a time when he could no longer conceal from himself the obvious fact that he was getting on in years, and that his attractions as a heartbreaker were on the wane. Nevertheless, he resolves to have one last fling with a lady named Marcolina, and, by means of rather disgraceful hoax, accomplishes his aims, and, as was always his custom, escapes all vengeance. The tale is well written?the author a distinguished international figure in the literary world? but, except for its suave manner...

At Dartmouth it is found that this year's freshman-sophomore picture war "lends color to the impression that the fight is a nuisance anyway, and had best be abolished". As for Misiano, he will doubtless soon be on his way once more to his Russian fatherland. The Red Gods grant him a safe journey...

Yet the power of the German army, which we had believed on the wane, is exhibited once more. We need not deceive ourselves in believing that anything but a long struggle is before us. Barring the unexpected, we have a long road to victory. It is for us Americans, who, even after a year, are still upon the threshold of an appreciable participation, it is for us to redouble our efforts toward effectively aiding those heroic peoples who have...
