...other new releases fell below even Surrogates' wan totals. Dennis Quaid flopped with Pandorum ($4.4 million), yet another sci-fi movie starring an actor in his mid-50s. Nor is the remake of Fame gonna live forever: its third-place finish of $10 million was one more underperformer. Among the holdovers, only Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All by Myself showed any staying power. The Jennifer Aniston romance ($4.3 million) was a box-office wallflower. And how lifeless is the femme horror comedy Jennifer's Body ($3.5 million)? In her host monologue on Saturday Night Live this weekend...

...kept purring along; Meryl Streep's impersonation of Julia Child has now earned more than $70 million, while the Eric Bana-Rachel McAdams love story is nearing $50 million. In its opening weekend, Taking Woodstock - Ang Lee's tale of peace, love and outrageous Jewish stereotypes - took in a wan $3.7 million. Since last year he has prescribed children suffering from diarrhea with 20 mg of zinc daily for about two weeks. Throw in oral-rehydration therapy (ORT), which has been the main weapon against diarrhea for the past few decades, and a treatment...

...speak in the past tense, since Heigl comes near to emptying her reserves of goodwill with a disastrous new concoction called The Ugly Truth. In its wan attempt to be raunchy, the picture fails where Judd Apatow has usually succeeded; written by three women, this is a girl's mistaken idea of an R-rated comedy. Heigl, as star and executive producer, doesn't do herself any favors either. She spends virtually the entire movie getting mocked up and knocked out. (See TIME's review of (500) Days of Summer...
