...President of the U.S., standing in the moving Rolls-Royce with King Paul of Greece early last week, clasped his hands over his midriff and laughed in wonderment at the evident warmth of the welcome that showered around him on the streets of Athens. "I think he's absolutely getting to love this," said a tired staffer. "He doesn't say so, but he'd have to be superhuman not to feel this way." In the third week of his 22,000-mile journey, Dwight Eisenhower indeed was having a wonderful time. In Iran, in Greece...

...cast plays with warmth and exuberance. They convincingly create the atmosphere of friendliness, love, and sorrow that is the film's best quality. It is interesting to note, too, that they are a most ordinary looking lot, as the most complex individuals. But here, the actors make an effort to keep their characterizations on the proletarian level called for in the script. One believes that Valentina Telegina (who looks, incidentally, like a peasant mother symbol) is an uncomplicated woman devoted to her family and not bothered by the "greater things" taking place around...

Among the more promising: ¶ Fiorello!, with newcomer Tom Bosley an accurate re-creation of New York's "Little Flower" La Guardia, is filled with warmth, schmalz and a lively choreography that amounts to expertly organized pandemonium. Directed by George Abbott, boasting a bouncy score (by Jerry Bock) and urbane lyrics (by Sheldon Harnick), Fiorello! moves from Manhattan's garment district to Washington's Capitol Hill to New York's City Hall at a breathless pace. Crowed the Philadelphia Inquirer: "The new champion...

...result is a seven-disk set of remarkable clarity, in which the various elements of the orchestra stand forth in superbly wrought detail. In the comparatively calm air of the early symphonies and of the Pastoral, the orchestra sings with a kind of warmth and lyric affection typical of Walter's musical vision. In the sterner period of the Seventh and Ninth, it takes on an incandescence and brilliance that elevate both performances to dazzling heights. Not all of the set is equally good, but all of it is imbued in some degree with Walter's ageless enthusiasm...

...lesser installations. Philippine President Carlos Garcia, who clearly intends to point with pride to the base agreement in the forthcoming Philippine off-year elections, was quick to praise Bohlen's statesmanship and to declare that "less capable hands" might have imperiled U.S.-Philippine friendship. But Garcia's warmth did not necessarily augur an easy time for Bohlen's prospective successor, John D. Hickerson, now U.S. Ambassador to Finland. Still left for Hickerson to settle: the long-standing dispute as to how much jurisdiction Philippine courts should have over U.S. servicemen...
