...YORK: Cable TV's own War of the Roses ended today with a deal between TIME Warner Cable and Fox News that a relieved Rudy Giuliani called "a win-win situation for everyone involved." Fox News will get to take on CNN and MSNBC in New York City, the nation's premier media market, plus access to 65 percent of the TIME Warner systems. In return, Fox will eventually allow TIME Warner to broadcast its channels across the Fox international satellite television network, giving the media conglomerate a slice of some overseas markets it currently doesn't reach. Giuliani...

...personnel in the movie "Contact" delivering fictional news reports about a message from an alien civilization. Earlier, Shaw had appeared in "The Lost World" reporting that dinosaurs had run amok in San Diego. But "Contact" came under special scrutiny because CNN's parent company, Time Warner, also owns Warner Bros., which produced the film. Johnson said he wasn't pressured to lend his journalists to the movie. "It has created a concern among the professional community that we are being manipulated by Time Warner," he said. "We are not. A Warner Brothers spokeswoman says the company wants Clinton to see the film before passing judgment. The more disturbing news, of course, is that Zemeckis didn't have to ask Clinton...

...talk turned to computers. One guest made a brave foray: "What is this thing Pathfinder I keep hearing about?" Answer: Pathfinder is one of the most heavily trafficked sites on the Web. The company that owns this very magazine has spent untold millions building and promoting it. Time Warner executives will be disappointed to learn that none of these Beltway honchos could identify it. One person--an actual Time Warner employee--volunteered, "Oh, I know! It's just like Netscape!" Netscape Navigator is the leading browser software that allows your computer to use the Web. This would be like someone...

Republican chairman John Warner--wary of offending Jenkins, who is backed by the Christian Coalition--pledged to continue the investigation, although without the Democrats he will have no power to issue subpoenas. Jenkins says the real issue is New Orleans' corrupt Democratic machine, which helped elect Landrieu, whose father was once mayor. The machine, he insists, "tainted the election." That may or may not be so, but Jenkins' "witnesses" tainted the probe. As a serene Mary Landrieu said in the Capitol last week, "You couldn't make this stuff...
