...initial debate on Iraq war resolutions last week, Lieberman was at it again. The notably mild Warner-Levin resolution of disapproval would "discourage our troops and hearten our enemies," he said. A day later, I asked Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska about politicians--not Lieberman specifically--who made such statements. "They're despicable," he said, in a decidedly unsenatorial tone. "Those sorts of statements are the last refuge of a scoundrel. They suggest a lack of patriotism on the part of people like me and John Warner and Carl Levin. They hurt our democracy...

...curdled into demagoguery. Senator John McCain has taken a similar path, calling those who would vote for the resolution "intellectually dishonest." He suggests the "honest" path for surge opponents would be to go ahead and cut off funds for the war. But the Senators who favor Warner-Levin are pointedly opposed to immediate withdrawal from Iraq. So who's being intellectually dishonest here? It is sad to see McCain and Lieberman disgracing themselves this way. It is tempting to say, "Shame on you," and leave it at that. Panama may not be Semel's last bullet. Analysts have suggested Yahoo! could benefit from merging with AOL, a division of Time Warner (TIME's parent), or a linkup with Microsoft, which lags in search. Either deal would help Yahoo! take on Google more aggressively. One thing that won't change: the quirky Yahoo! culture. Early on, founders Jerry Yang and David Filo set up a free cappuccino bar for employees and have followed up with annual company-wide gifts, ranging from MP3 players to sleeping bags. Google has topped the coffee bar with free meals and a host...

...unemployed with his family in their house in Hawaii, he spent all this past summer working--first on We Are Marshall and then on this fall's Vantage Point, with Forest Whitaker and William Hurt. To fit both of these into his break, he had to persuade ABC and Warner Bros., the studio behind Marshall, to make a lot of compromises. (Fox's hair may have been a little red--as it is for the movie--for the last few episodes of Lost last season.) He also had to convince Red Dawson, the coach he played in We Are Marshall...
