...Warren Haynes' thick sound is well complemented by his authoritative attack and tough blues riffs, not to mention his tasteful slide guitar playing. While Haynes' bluesy style earns a visceral appeal, Dickie Betts' fluid meanderings find a more melodic one. Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott was vocal too -- more so than his boss, Warren Christopher -- in insisting that the time for negotiations had passed. It would be morally distasteful, Talbott declared, to help set up the junta's leaders outside Haiti. Perry countered that Talbott's inflexibility represented a peculiar morality. The U.S., he said, should explore all peaceful alternatives before risking American lives and hundreds of millions of dollars to oust Haiti's bosses...

Both Rabin and Secretary of State Warren Christopher felt certain Hizballah was, as the Secretary put it, "at the bottom of some of these" bombings of Israeli and Jewish targets. "Groups like Hizballah that wreak havoc and bloodshed," he said, "and Hizballah's sponsor, Iran," must not be allowed to prevail. If their goal is to halt the moves toward peace, they probably will not succeed. Car bombings and terrorist atrocities now seem irrelevant to a Middle East so close to an overall settlement...
