...HAVEN, November 20.--About five hundred undergraduates, headed by the band, marched to the field this afternoon to watch the final open practice. There was no scrimmage between the university and college elevens, but the first team was put through short signal practice. Bowman made several good drop kicks. ...Observatory has abandoned its attempts to photograph the expected shower of leonids this year in consequence of the unusual rarity of meteors which have been sighted. On Friday night a watch was kept for the shower but only a few desultory meteors fell before a fog arose and precluded further observations. A casual watch was again kept on Saturday night, but not a single meteor was observed. As the extraordinary showers which were predicted to occur about the year 1899 have not materialized, it is probable that the Observatory will make no further attempt to obtain photographs of leonids...

...watch will be kept at the Observatory tonight and the succeeding nights of the week for the shower of Leonids which is expected to occur within a few days. The photographic apparatus is adjusted by electricity so that the cameras are continuously exposed to the same portion of the sky. Several other instruments for determining the velocity and angular projection of the meteors have been mounted and are ready to be operated at any moment. It is thought that tomorrow night will be the time for the appearance of the meteors this year, although no definite forecast can be made...
