Since my parents were the only ones in our family with power and water, they came over here for showers and lunch beforehand. My sister also showed up - looking for a shower and some air conditioning. Houston was built on a filled swamp, and it's hot and humid on the best of days in the summer. Throw in a hurricane and torrential rain storms, and it's a miserable place to be without air conditioning...
