Career: Son of an intelligent Norwegian father, he was an early and precocious reader. From the State Normal School, he went to Northwestern University, worked his waythrough the dental school, opened a professional office at Glenwood, Minn, in 1904. After serving as the town's mayor, he was elected to the State House of Representatives for one term.
