...politics, the challenger faces a formidable--and probably thankless--task of campaigning. If he ever expects to win, he will usually have to spend one race just getting himself known, and then the next two years solidifying the personal ties he has made. Still, he may leave a weak and politically worthless impression: "George is a nice guy, and I'd like to give 'em my number one, but--has been a good councillor, and besides which, he got cousin...

Dartmouth will have little difficulty winning its fourth straight game of the season. Despite the Indian's propensity for fumbling, there is virtually no chance of an upset. Nonetheless, the game should be academically interesting: Dartmouth's weak spot may be its pass defense, and they have not yet faced a good passing team. Today they must cope with Brown's Bob Hall, who set a school record by completing 21 passes against Yale last week. When they settled in to feed or rest, they would funnel down, out of the sky, filling every branch and foothold, stacking up on one another's backs a dozen deep, splintering weak branches, toppling whole dead trees to the ground. They nested in only slightly less congestion, spreading out over scores of square miles, making every tree a kind of arboreal tenement...

Here is the most inscrutable game of the week. Penn opened its season with a 20-14 victory over weak Lehigh, while Brown was beaten by an unusually good Rhode Island team, 14-6. The Bruins will undoubtedly be "up" for this game in order to prove themselves, but Penn has a slightly better squad with All Ivy halfback Bruce Molloy and a pair of talented sophomore quarterbacks giving them a diversified attack...

From Dour to Cheery. Their patient, say Drs. Ervin and Mark, was "usually a dour and surly individual," at the best of times. After they fitted him with electrodes and gave him a little transistorized stimulator capable of sending a weak current through his thalamus whenever he pressed a button, he cheerfully reported absence of pain after 15 or 20 minutes. If he kept the current on for 45 minutes to an hour, the pain relief lasted as long as six to eight hours and gave him a night of uninterrupted, pain-free sleep - an invaluable benefit. During the last...
