...second eleven in comparison with the previous practice games showed up weaker than usual. Many of the substitutes were worked in, and the make up considerably changed. Parker did perhaps the best work, playing about as well as he has at any time this season. Whittren, Collamore and A. Brewer also watched their ends carefully and made some good tackles. Fairchild was slow at quarter and did not run his team with as much snap as he might have. Phelan of the junior eleven played fullback, but dropped the ball badly and missed an easy tackle which resulted...
...practice game between ninety-four and ninety-six yesterday afternoon was a poor exhibition. Both elevens played miserably, especially '94. The work was far weaker than in the B. A. A, game. Almost every long run of the backs was due rather to a misplay of the opponents than to their own skill. The three touchdowns were the direct result of poor tackling. The weakness of '94's centre was caused by the absence of Lee. Richardson, the substitute, was unable to hold Fox, and this, to a great extent, accounts for the fumbles of Cabot at quarter. Beals, Bond...
Ninety-four played a creditable game against B. A. A. yesterday afternoon on Norton's Field. The general team work was superior to that of former games, and especial improvement was shown in breaking through the interference of their opponents. Their defensive work, however, was weaker than usual, but this was due chiefly to the advantage which the B. A. A. had in weight. R. Beals, Wrenn, and Harding played well, breaking through and tackling repeatedly. Borden and Gardner, aided by the interference, made several long gains. Cabot, at quarter, did good work. Later in the game he was compelled...
...defensive work is beginning to tell. In very few cases were Technology's backs able to buck the center successfully, and running round the end was out of the question. The interference was a little weaker than it has been in some days. The blockers did not strike their men hard enough to throw them clear off their feet...
Amherst however, is undoubtedly much weaker now than she was last year. Her players were light and there was little or no team play. The line failed completely to hold Harvard's rushers, and her backs, with the exception of the opening V plays, did not make more than 20 yards during the entire game. Amherst's V's generally met the Harvard line halfway the distance between them and then stopped. Only once did she carry the ball more than her distance and that was when Hawes slipped by Beal and made six yards. Amherst played a plucky game...
