Although the athletics of the week resulted in two defeats for the University, some profitable practice and training were received throughout the first part of the week. As a whole, the weather was abominable for all kinds of athletics. This necessitated an indoor practice for the football team on Monday and made the field so sloppy that practice for the rest of the time before the Washington and Jefferson game was somewhat interfered with. Despite the unfavorable weather and heavy track, some excellent performances were made in the fall handicap games held in the Stadium yesterday. The best race of the afternoon was the 880-yard run which resulted in a dead heat between G. Lamont '16 and R.D. Campbell '17, both men running from scratch. Lamont started early to cut down his handicap and at the quarter-mile mark was in first position with Campbell last of a field of a dozen. R. St. B. Boyd '14 ran well in the three mile race, while I. L. Foley '15 with a handicap...

...three University crews have had a week of steady improvement. The cooler weather seems to have given them a snap that was lacking before and both coach Wray and Captain Reynolds are satisfied that they will do good work in the race in the Basin on next Tuesday. During the first part of the week the crews took long, easy paddles, Coach Wray paying particular attention to the quick pull through and slow recovery which makes the boat run between strokes. Yesterday and the day before the crews tried racing starts and fast stretches at 32 to 36 strokes...
