Despite unfavorable weather conditions work on Emerson Hall, the new building for the Philosophical Department, has been progressing rapidly. The outside walls have been raised to the tops of the window-frames of the third story except at the western end of the building, where the main cornice has just been completed. This cornice is of limestone blocks, weighing from four to six tons each, which extend the entire thickness of the wall and jut out two feet beyond.
