...Edward Everett Hale's popularity at Harvard was never better attested than yesterday afternoon at his address on the "Art of Extemporary Speaking." Despite the stormy weather standing room only was to be had in Sever 11, and the large audience gave the speaker a most enthusiastic welcome. ...final hare and hounds run of the season was given yesterday afternoon. Notwithstanding the disagreeable weather, a number of men competed and made the run very successful. The hares were J. L. Coolidge '95 and D. W. Fenton 2nd '95 who covered the distance of about eight miles in one hour. The trail lay through Norton's woods and Somerville, down Prospect street, over the Brookline street bridge to Boston, across the sand pits to Harvard street, through Aliston, down Boylston street where a profusion of paper signaled the break. Each fall as the days become shorter and the weather colder the older members of the University begin to look forward with pleasant anticipation to the vesper services. ...stormy weather of yesterday was a drawback on the success of the hare and hounds run and tended to diminish the usual large attendance. However, about twenty five men turned out and enjoyed the sport. A good trail was laid by J. Manley '93 and J. L. Coolidge '95 who acted as hares. The paper led across different yards down to the Charles river, through Allston, where the hounds had some difficulty in following the scent.
