...staging that arrived on Broadway last week mutes both of these satiric elements. The Rivetti brothers, as played by Jake Weber, in no way call to mind the U.S. style of mafiosi. And in the pivotal role of Jack, Brian Murray is a tower of Jell-O, reeking of insincerity from his entry, peevish rather than apocalyptic in uprooting family scandal. Director Lynne Meadow, who vastly improved on Ayckbourn's staging of his best play, Woman in Mind, here reduces a cry of outrage to an amiable snigger. Some lawmakers, including Congressmen Newt Gingrich, Henry Hyde and Vin Weber, responded positively to Sununu's appeal. But the chief of staff's many enemies in Washington saw an opportunity to take revenge. Totally textless, utterly black-and-white, the thick, glossy portfolio photographed by Bruce Weber is a jumbled pastiche of naked bodies, black leather jackets, Harleys and tattoos, with cameo roles by a crying baby and a urinal. Biker chicks straddle their "hogs" and rough up their men. Rippling hunks wield electric guitars like chain saws, grab one another, sometimes themselves. Oh, yes, there are even a few incidental photographs of jeans, most of which are being wrestled off taut bodies or used as wet loincloths...
