...junior race was very close and exciting. The Weld boat led to the bridge but from there to the finish the race was very even, and had it not been for the bad steering of the coxswain the Weld crew would have won. As it was, although stroke and bow slipped their slides just before the finish, the Newell crew won out by 3 feet...

...last and most exciting race was that of the second junior crews. Within the first two hundred yards they fouled and had to start over again. On the second start the crews were even and remained so until the finish. The Weld rowed a long stroke and showed up in better form than the Newell crew. However, by a spurt in the last fifty yards the Newell eight overcame the Weld crew's slight lead and won out by one foot. The time was not taken...
