...print an editorial on Saturday criticising the cutting of the University crew squad. To those concerned I would like to say that any group of men who so desire may get up a scrub eight and row from Weld. Contrary to the opinion expressed in your columns I might also add that there are now sixty University candidates rowing from the Newell boathouse which to my knowledge is the largest squad ever retained. ...fifth and sixth Freshman crews were put into the water from the Weld boathouse yesterday afternoon for the first time. They are the first eights to be sent out from Weld this season. It is planned to send out the seventh and eighth 1918 boats this afternoon from Weld, and the remainder of the 12 crews by twos on the succeeding days of this week...

Owing to the fact that one of the coaching launches was disabled yesterday, the fifth and sixth Freshman crews were not sent out on the river from Weld as had been planned. They will be sent out on Monday and will be the first eights put out from Weld this season...
