Although Dillard's work contains a brief look at the grammar of Black English and an appendix on the pronunciation of the dialect, it is not sufficient. Though scholarly and well-written, the book is more a historical-sociological survey that a linguistics text. More work is needed in the field. Introducing Harvard is well-written and beautifully illustrated It avoids the boring litany of traditional radical rhetric students are not told to "Smash" or Fight Back" and professors are not labeled war criminals" or "racist pigs." They issued well-written and researched pamphlets, staged demonstrations and teach-ins, and gradually attracted attention and support from Afro and the Harvard black community, and then from the white liberal majority.
