He was born in Boston, May 1, 1818, the second son of Ralph Haskins, a well-known Boston merchant, and his wife, Rebecca-daughter of David Greene. Very few of the men are in practice at this time of the year, and this accounts for the poor playing. Whitman and Thomas have been playing very well and stand a good chance of reaching the finals.
