There was a time when one could laugh at the smug hypocrisy of the Boston censors, but it becomes almost necessary to "view with alarm" a movement which threatens to wipe out the lawful study of a whole field of literature. In the welter of material which has appeared on the subject vilifying the censors, the one thing that has been overlooked is the possibility of disclosing an insidious publishers lobby. All books printed in a foreign language are admitted duty free into the country and they may sometimes compete with American publications and thus reduce the per'capita spendings...
Chippies. Among the more uncouth of the year's dramas was this tale of a girl's grim progress from an Ohio village to the bed of a Cleveland beer-runner. Out of a welter of cheap wheezes and smudgy local color comes the 'legger's cryptic decision to marry the girl. Thus made respectable, they return to Ohio, to find the coffin of the girl's tortured mother in the dim sitting room. Cullen Landis played the 'legger without retrieving the general exhibition of bad theatre and worse taste...

Sunk into comparative obscurity six months ago, his theatrically effective plans for the relief of unemployment (TIME, March 11) may win enough seats for the despised Liberals to give them the balance of power in parliamentary debates between Conservatives and Laborites, both numerically more potent...
...Into the welter of sensationalism aroused about a scientist who is reported to believe in "special creation". Professor Mather strikes a calm and refreshing note in his article in today's CRIMSON. His careful study of the paper which gave rise to the exciting story shows it to be little more than a reformulation of the mutation theory of evolution. It is not Man who is the "special creation" but the whole vertebrate kingdom. Mr. Clark's unorthodoxy, evidently, is merely that he cannot trace any evolutionary relationship between the lowest from of fish and the invertebrate kingdom...
Academic psychology has something to learn from it. Its subject matter is important; for the investigation of the aberrancies of nature is one of the recognized ways to truth. Psychopathology provides normal psychology with a welter of previously unconsidered facts, data that cannot be described by any of the available concepts. The concepts advanced by analysts to describe their findings are in many cases at variance with existing psychological hypotheses. The divergence is bound to produce intellectual tensions that will catalyze thought and make possible an ultimate harmony. The analysts have provided one of the shocks that have jolted...
