McClory, an anguished former Nixon supporter who had wept when he learned about the Watergate-related criminal conviction of John Ehrlichman, then successfully sponsored a third article of impeachment of his own. It charged Nixon with deliberately disobeying lawful subpoenas from the Judiciary Committee for White House tape recordings and documents. Only two Republicans (McClory and Hogan) supported this article and only two Democrats (Mann and Alabama's Walter Flowers) opposed it.
