...Within several years, Sweden succeeded in getting its economy back on course. Growth has been as robust as in any country in western Europe in recent years and its banks have helped finance the economic boom in the Baltics and points east. Whether its approach could work in the far larger and more complicated U.S. market isn't clear. Certainly the captains of Wall Street would bray over the mere hint of nationalization. But with hundreds of billions of dollars at stake, it might be worth, at the very least, a hard look...

...These 213 low-income units currently stand next to Harvard’s soccer field, squarely in the middle of its new Allston campus. Last year Harvard secretly acquired the Charlesview land in exchange for land and financing to rebuild the complex a quarter-mile down Western Ave. Though the deal was made with the Charlesview’s board, without tenant representation to speak of, and with no notice to or consultation with the surrounding community, it could do some real good: The present Charlesview structures are dilapidated, and its enclave-like design isolates it from the rest...

...What worries us neighbors, though, is that the terms Harvard negotiated with Charlesview’s board do not allow this relocation to work properly for our community and the residents of Charlesview. This division by income, a model long abandoned by policy...

...Georgian offensive that Russia intervened. And while Russia’s response was disproportionate, one would be hard pressed to argue that Georgia did not know that their actions would provoke a Russian reaction. As James Traub wrote in The New York Times, Georgia’s Columbia-educated, Western-backed president Mikheil Saakashvili “has played a dangerous game of baiting the Russian bear.” It seems that Mr. Saakashvilli not only may have led his now devastated country into an avoidable war, but also sparked a shift in American political discourse on Russia...

...Szczerbiak. The forward rises up and fires a high, arching three-pointer. The ball floats in the air, spinning like a rubber globe as it falls towards the hoop, kisses the back rim, and swishes gently through. Pandemonium. Unfortunately, although Harvard recruited Szczerbiak, the former NBA draft pick and Western Conference All-Star also considered attending Miami University (Ohio). He chose Ohio...
