Most of the mystery of this movie lies in its attraction rather than its plot. The movie opens with yuppie couple Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) and Molly Jensen (Demi Moore) moving into one of those ridiculously large New York apartments that only people in movies can afford. They're happy, after their fashion--late at night, when Molly can't sleep, she shapes clay phallic symbols on her pottery wheel and Sam wakes up and helps her. Despite the fact his hands are caked with clay, he rubs her thighs. She gets all hot and bothered, and they dance...
...Nachtwey learned that Pakistani police were preventing foreigners from crossing the border into Afghanistan. Nachtwey began to grow a beard and donned guerrilla garb in order to pass through in a truck with a group of mujahedin. Stanley crawled into a burlap bag and hid among sacks filled with wheat. "On the one hand, I was scared," she recalls. "On the other hand, I felt absurd." On the way back, Stanley rode openly with the rebels, but dressed in a burka, a head-to-toe Muslim garment. All went smoothly until a border policeman hitched a ride. He sat inches...

The local landlord, Arjun Singh, noticed Kuchchi's beauty too. One day last month he approached her as she cut wheat in his fields and offered her two bullocks and other favors if she would sleep with him. Dhanraj angrily told Singh to leave his wife alone. That evening, two of the landlord's nephews allegedly dragged Dhanraj from his hut, doused him with kerosene and set him on fire...
...surprisingly, the most persuasive proselytizers for sustainable agriculture are those who have profited by it. Since 1981, Wilbert Blumhardt and his son Glenn have been fighting erosion on their 3,000-acre spread near Bowdle, S. Dak., by planting wheat, sunflowers, soybeans and corn in fields littered by the debris from earlier harvests. "That trash," says Wilbert, "serves an important purpose. It helps feed the soil, and it allows the water to soak in and not wash off into lakes and streams." Last year the Blumhardts' fields produced an average of 27 bu. of wheat an acre, 30% more than...
