TThis afternoon, however, I will surmount those anxieties. As I step onto the Red Line T car, a layer of stress will lift off my shoulders and be subsumed by the whine of the tracks. This is no time to be silent or to whine in private and in vain. While administrators randomize the houses and ignore student input in the selection of deans, we cannot sit idle and let the Undergraduate Council remain impotent. We must not only elect leaders who care about students' rights; we must also demand those rights ourselves by keeping in touch with our representatives, by observing or participating at least a few meetings per year, by remaining informed about campus issues and by pressuring the administration directly through letters and phone calls...

Each face carries a grudge. The men mutter and growl and get fall-down drunk. The women wheedle and whine. Or they knit furiously, like Lindsay Duncan in Grown-Ups, as if rehearsing to put her unloving husband's eyes out. Or they throw insults like darts.
