...would you like to fall down a tunnel, land inside actor John Malkovich's body for 15 minutes, then be dumped next to the New Jersey Turnpike--all for $200 (tolls included). That's the weird, beguiling premise of writer Charlie Kaufman's absurdist romance. Jonze, a music-video whiz and an actor (Three Kings), has the vexing habit of forcing his attractive stars (John Cusack, Cameron Diaz, Catherine Keener) to deliver their big scenes through clumps of matted hair. But he keeps the wheels spinning on this funny-peculiar story of people so desperate that they would...

This might be the year that the rest of us got smarter than Warren Buffett. America's best-known investing whiz runs Berkshire Hathaway, pals around with Bill Gates and famously shuns tech stocks. Yet tech stocks, the day traders' favorite food, have sustained the market, while Berkshire's A-class stock is down 19% and headed for its first losing year since 1990. By the end of last week, when stocks in general were bruised by fears of inflation and mixed earnings reports, the company had lost $20 billion of market value...

Carlos Santana, guitar god, spiritual guy and Woodstock vet, whose once great career was sagging, and Arista Records whiz Clive Davis, who signed the 52-year-old axman just when it looked as if Santana's next starring gig might be at the discount racks. ...absence of any canonizing or aggrandizing tendencies. Although both David Lynch and Freddie Francis, the director of photographer, pay homage to Straight's perseverance, The Straight Story is by no means a documentary. The wheels on Straight's lawnmower blend with the turning of tractor wheels. Bicyclists, cars, trucks whiz right by. Never for a moment are you made to forget that Straight is riding a 1966 John Deere. And for those of us willing to trot along at five miles-per-hour, the story is unexpectedly rewarding...

Steve Jobs can. Though he has no more to do with the creation of Pixar movies than, say, Time Warner chairman Gerald Levin had to do with The Matrix, he is a whiz at cajoling, nudging and cheering on John Lasseter and the other gentle geniuses in the Pixar cave to get stuff done. So with a great push, Toy Story 2 will be ready for its Nov. 24 release. It's nearly completed now, and judging by a sneak peek last week, we'd say it looks like high-comic computer...
