...BETA KAPPA.This society was first introduced into this country about the year 1776, in which year a charter was granted to the college of William and Mary of Virginia. The society quickly extended to Harvard, and a chapter was founded there in 1781. The object of the society was the promotion of literature and friendly intercourse among scholars, but only those students who obtained a high rank were admitted.
