Consider Mike Carr, an environmental engineer and paraglider pilot from Denver who last year survived a bad landing that smashed 10 ribs and collapsed his lung. While Chaplin and Atkinson are anchored at Wotho, an obscure spot in the Marshall Islands, Typhoon Gay roars in.
