...Winfield had less trouble with his opponents. Showing the lightning speed which made him All-Ivy last year, he disposed of the NYU sabremen 5-3, 5-4, and 5-3. Only against the number two man did he have difficulty, fighting off an attempt to come from behind holding on to his initial 3-0 lead...

...sabre team, on the other hand, was strong, with Larry Cetrulo and Ron Winfield each winning two bouts. Today against NYU the sabres will again have to be winners if the Crimson is to have the upset it seeks. The sophomore-led epees won three bouts against Columbia and will do well to repeat that performance today...

Agains M.I.T. it was a different story. Overall the fencers won eight sabre, six foil, and seven epee contests. Captain Ron Winfield, Larry Cetrulo, Tony Abbott and Pat Pankhurst all won two events in the sabre. Pankhurst had the only loss in this weaponclass against M.I.T. Winfield and Cetrulo have won consistently for Harvard all season. In the foil Tom Keller was the only double winner as Tom Mistick, Sam Fouts, Cliff Ruderman, and Art Weissman each took one foil...

Behind Cetrulo and Keller, team captain Ron Winfield and sophomore epee Geza Tetrayllay have provided the depth which Harvard teams have lacked consistently in the past. The epee team, the weakest part of the squad in the first three meets, took on a new look against C.C.N.Y. John Reitz, fencing his first time in the number one spot, led the epee romp with three wins. But the most pleasant surprises came from Tetrayllay and sophomore Mickey Irvings who won five of their six bouts...
