Junior. Most recent and notable entrant into the light-plane field is Curtiss-Wright Corp.** Last week it announced its new Junior, a two-place high-wing monoplane for $1,490. Some features: Szekely 3-cylinder motor of 40 h. p.; top speed 80 m. p. h., cruising 70, landing 28 Fuel consumption: about one gallon to 25 mi.; cruising radius 200 mi. The plane is tiny, looks like a winged canoe built close to the ground, but is sturdily braced against the novice's "pancake" landings. It is of the "pusher" type (a rarity in modern landplanes) with...

Top speed 92 m. p. h., landing speed 35. But a larger wing span is provided for buyers who want to fly and land more slowly...
...Flutter" is the name given to a rapid, rippling vibration which most commonly affects the unsupported wing of a monoplane, sometimes causing it to tear apart, but which at high speeds may affect the tail. Working with a model of the crashed plane, the investigators found it could not have flown fast enough to produce tail-flutter. But at slow speeds, they discovered, the plane's low wing could set up wicked eddying currents which wrenched the tail up and down, destroying all control. This they called "buffeting," and concluded it had sent the Junkers into its fatal dive...
...inconsiderate of his parishioners to die at his dinnertime; the hint was sufficient. Parson Sparrow, whose predecessor's morals had been lax, found to his dismay that the more upright he was, the wickeder became his people. In humble desperation he went a-walking with gay Betty Wing, and the villagers trooped back to church, "for a little wickedness do make a lot of talk." These 26 short stories show Powys' sympathy for pastoral paganism; show too his awareness that bucolic simplicity does not lack subtlety, that country kindliness contains a broad streak of country cruelty...
However, with the release of the radical Indian Congress chiefs by the Viceroy there is every indication that a left wing will be formed which will strongly oppose the findings of the Round Table Conference. If England does not grant general amnesty to all political prisoners, if the boycott of British goods is continued, and if Gandhi decides to renew his former opposition and seek complete liberty or none, then the negotiations that have filled the last few months have accomplished little...
