...arrival of the Motorola ROKR-aka "the iTunes phone"-has triggered a hullabaloo about music-playing phones. Turns out, lots of them do it. This month, Verizon Wireless introduced a couple of phones with stereo speakers that support V Cast news and entertainment, and both of them-the Samsung SPH-a950 and the LG VX9800-play MP3s...
...That's not the only warning Verizon shares regarding this phone. Perhaps to avoid the angry reaction to last year's "crippled" Motorola V710 (a phone I still use, by the way), Verizon is quick to point out that while the VX9800 has Bluetooth, it supports it only for wireless headsets and hands-free accessories, not for synching with a PC's desktop...
Control Freak When it comes to video-game controllers, Nintendo has always been an innovator. Back when Atari and its one-button joystick ruled, Nintendo devised a two-button controller with a directional thumb pad. "There's an instantness that is amazing," says EMI's Adam Klein, who has helped carriers around the world launch music services. A mobile music store requires networks that can support fast downloading. Sprint and Verizon now have them, and Cingular will soon. Verizon...
...Cabot House resident Allegra J. S. Lichauco ’08—who started the petition for Cingular to improve cell phone service in the Quad—isn’t the only one who can claim it. It turns out that the folks over at Cingular Wireless have a great deal of initiative themselves—so much so that, according to their Northeast Region Public Relations Representative, Alexa G. Kaufman, they approached Harvard University nearly a year ago about improving cellular reception. “We’re aware that the in-building penetration...
