...Power of Populism Joe Klein questions the wisdom of the Democrats using classic populism ("the people vs. the powerful") as a strategy to win the presidency [Jan. 12]. I say more power to them. It is the common people who work, pay taxes, fight our wars and cry out for fairness. Klein noted that the by-products of the 1890s' wave of populism were a progressive income tax, antitrust legislation and other reforms. Dean is proposing the same type of progressive political, social and economic agenda. Onofrio Perzia LeRoy...

...first to correctly read the Democratic electorate and channel its anger--not just at President Bush but at the Democrats in Washington who were still playing nice with a President who was playing for keeps. But this meant he could least afford to make a mistake. Once the conventional wisdom challenged his electability, the rationale for his candidacy started to crumble, and voters went searching elsewhere. (It ham-handedly drops words like hasbian--a former sapphist--as if to scream, "Look! We're cool! We get it!") But it could use more of Sex's sense of irony. Instead it earnestly believes its most trite observations are brilliant revelations; watching it is like spending an hour a week with an overconfident college sophomore. The L Word has lust...

...culture of the morning-after pill has already influenced many college campuses. After having unprotected sex, many female undergraduates heed the wisdom of their friends: Go to the hospital and get a prescription for the morning-after pill. With a move to make the pill over-the-counter, women will simply be able to do so with much less restrictive oversight.  As expected, abortion rights advocates and college women alike have lauded the recommendation. Says Anne M. Morris ’04, “I am a very strong supporter of putting measures in place so that...
