Yet, while their name (which the band claims was decided upon while drunk, munching at a Denny’s late-night) exudes an adolescent tongue-in-cheek wit, the content of their second album, Bad Dreams, is more substantial than the band’s name suggests...
Probably the best way to round out this or that perception of Mr. Personality is to just walk up to him and say hello. You’ll notice the charm and smile at the wit. And once you’ve dug yourself into conversations about his cute baby cousin or his gut, named Joe, you’ll realize that it’s actually pretty easy to talk to this somebody who just might be somebody someday...
...Jenn gets animated. Her hands start waving, her voice raises an octave and expands in volume. Her opera singer attitude comes out as her chest starts to heave and she argues people into the ground with a rapier wit and undying rationality. Her work at 48 Hours and Salomon Smith Barney only hints at Jenn’s capacity for power. Once she puts on her Armani pants suit, Jenn is ready to hit the City and take over the town. ...developmental sketches for strips and books. Preserving the tone of a monograph Kidd adds some minimal commentary, pointing out stylistic changes or historically important strips. Of the more than five hundred strips reproduced, most come the 1950s and sixties, which connoisseurs consider "Peanuts"' heyday for its level of literary wit and shocking acerbity. Normally an example would be provided here but none translate well enough into just words - a sign of great cartooning...
...with high expectations. Though the show takes a few musical numbers to navigate its exposition and find its footing, once it does, it more than fulfills those high expectations. Urinetown is a musical that grabs hold of its audience and takes nary a false step in proving itself with wit and confidence, one of the most infectious theatrical delights in recent memory...
