...some fear that this relationship constitutes complacency and weakness. For example, a committee chaired by former Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz has argued that the American military should prepare for an all-out confrontation by constructing a new national missile defense system specifically targeted at China. For Wolfowitz??€”one of the chief architects of the invasion and occupation of Iraq—this provocative plan is probably nothing extreme. Unfortunately, it’s also an idea that makes real the threat of nuclear war, economic devastation, and global instability. Building a new national missile defense system...
...search for Paul D. Wolfowitz??€™s successor as president of the World Bank, Harvard graduates are taking center stage. At least four people with Harvard ties—Robert B. Zoellick, R. Glenn Hubbard, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala ’77Â, and Baker Professor of Economics Martin S. Feldstein ’61—have garnered media speculation as candidates for the post, and Secretary of the Treasury Henry M. Paulson Jr., a graduate of the Business School, is heading up the search process. Wolfowitz announced he would resign earlier this month after a protracted scandal...
Just when you thought President George W. Bush’s other appointments were bad, Bush had to outdo himself by nominating Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz as president of the World Bank. Ironically, at the press conference announcing Wolfowitz??€™s nomination, Bush seemed to make it overwhelmingly clear that Wolfowitz is not qualified for the post. Let’s take a look at the President’s remarks...

Last time he went to Iraq (a developing country now if there ever was one), there was an assassination attempt. Wolfowitz??€™s nomination just shows how out of touch Bush is with the rest of the world...
...enough bashing Wolfowitz. If the Bush administration can’t find a better justification for Wolfowitz??€™s nomination, I’ll give them one: he majored in Math at Cornell and has a graduate degree in political science. Economics is kind of, sort of (not really) but marginally like political science with math, right? With all this to his credit, he’s practically overqualified for the position. Maybe his skills would be better used somewhere else...
