...Vysotsk - today a cluster of wooden houses with horse-drawn carts and creaking outdoor wells - a woman directed us to a memorial on the edge of the village. There, a large grave site was fenced off, and a Russian plaque announced that 1,864 Soviets - not Jews - were killed in 1942. So Desbois began knocking on doors along the one narrow road running through the village, in search of any witnesses to that day in 1942. "Were you living here during the war?" he asked as residents emerged from their homes, startled at the sight of an outsider. As darkness...

...simple set functioned well as a physical expression of the play’s larger themes. Set designers Chase-Levenson and Schick constructed several terraces to mimic the walls of Troy and featured actors on multiple elevations. A pair of large wooden doors opened and closed at the whims of the Trojan men, suggesting the intangible and subjective nature of peace. Lighting designer Mary E. Saving Beauty Looking like a cross between a very disorganized museum and the world's most expensive rummage sale, the vault at the OCBC's Paris headquarters is filled with stolen art that the team has recovered in recent months. Items from churches - including statues, lecterns, wooden pews, and bronze busts that belong in the Père-Lachaise cemetery - are packed on shelves, stacked against the walls and spread across the floor. Alongside them are hundreds of pieces taken from museums, galleries, libraries, archaeological sites and private homes: paintings by Renoir and Courbet, sculptures by Rodin, lamps...

...Clinton blunted the momentum of surging Barack Obama, and John McCain pulled out a victory in his old electoral stamping grounds, as record numbers of voters put polls and pundits to shame in New Hampshire. On both sides, it was a political roller coaster of the old school - the wooden kind that shakes and quakes until you really aren't sure how it will end. And then it pulls in to the finish with a shudder, and everyone piles off to get back in line...
