...hard row from the Union Boat Club to the bend below the Weld boathouse, a distance of a little over three miles. During the first mile of the course the University crew raced the second crew and was only able to win by half a length, the work of both crews being very ragged. At the finish of the first mile the Freshman crew took up the race and rowed to the bathing beach. Before reaching the Cottage Farm Bridge the University crew had a slight lead. Judging from previous showing the University team appears to have a distinct advantage. So far this season Dartmouth track work has been hindered by unfavorable weather; on the other hand, the University team has improved rapidly since the vacation and now appears in excellent condition. The industrial engineers apparently made many suggestions for improvement, and other changes were proposed on the postal cards sent out to the members of the University. It remains to be seen whether the halls will be more successful after the reforms have been made, or whether it is now too late for the tide of popularity to turn back again to the two institutions. The membership...
...first four-mile race this spring the work of the University crew seemed to be fairly good, although at times the finish was poor and the slides uneven. The crew was also inclined to shorten, and the blade work of some of the men was very erratic. The second crew rowed the last half-mile in splendid form...
