...First Amendment's Establishment Clause was written by the predecessors of today's anti-religious liberal nuts. It was drafted with the diabolical purpose of guarding against the levying of taxes for the support of religious activities, a practice that was all too common in the early colonies. Today, a grossly sectarian and evangelical newspaper receives state funding, money that has been taken from everyone's pockets--Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and atheists...

...neglected world of the Harvard procrastinator, exam period provokes a type of panic unknown to other students. Sure, the procrastinator may incite envy as she traipses around campus, seemingly oblivious to the stress of the season. The music and lyrics, by Jason Robert Brown, catch fire only in a couple of disposable up-tempo numbers (Mary Phagan getting wooed by a suitor on the trolley) and turn gooey in big ballads like All the Wasted Time, sung by Lucille and Leo in jail. Prince's staging is elegant but rather quiet, the set dominated by a giant oak tree from which Leo will eventually hang. No one wants a glitzed...

...novelty factor runs high with this first novel, nominated for a Booker Prize and written by a fellow who drives a big red London bus, and who, British newspapers feverishly reported, received a $1.6 million advance, which later turned out to be $16,000 (he still drives that bus). But this hilariously macabre tale of Tam and Richie, two Scottish fence builders who--once they can be dragged from their slovenly trailer, their cigarette breaks and their pub crawling--keep accidentally killing people on the job, marks a terrific debut. As the story veers into increasingly surreal territory--just...
