DIED. Salvador de Madariaga, 92, erudite, witty, prolific man of letters, interpreter of Spanish culture and diplomat; in Locarno, Switzerland. When King Alfonso XIII abdicated in 1931, Madariaga became the Spanish Republic's first Ambassador to the U.S. and its delegate to the League of Nations.
