From his earliest veils, Louis progressed to more complicated "floral" patterns, then to what many admirers consider his most sophisticated works. These are known as Louis' "unfurleds": irregular zebra stripes placed in such a way that they seem to almost tear the canvas apart with their decisiveness. In the 1960s, he turned to narrow, bold, successive rows of vertical stripes. Just before he died, Louis began to stretch and frame his canvases so that the stripes ran diagonally, sprinting tensely upwards, onwards and off at the corners. Mute and vibrant, they hang stiffly like heraldic banners for some brave...
Youthful American collectors knew exactly what to do with Le Fare's exhibit when it arrived at Manhattan's Howard Wise Gallery last week. Few could afford Le Fare's larger zebra-striped mobiles or a unit of multiple-pushbutton boxes of "7 surprise movements," but they snapped up his nearly identical, spidery shadow pictures and smaller, tinkling aluminum abstractions at prices ranging from...
...week. From its basic A-line shift ($1.75), the company has expanded its line to include bell-bottom jump suits ($4), evening gowns ($5), aprons ($1.35), and men's vests ($1.99). Sterling Paper Products aims to gross $6,000,000 this year from such items as a $7.50 zebra-print pants suit, a $15 bridal gown, an $8 maternity dress and 40? children's pinafores-just the thing for ever-sprouting sprouts...

Kroehler, the world's largest manufacturer, held seven conferences with what the company calls "nearlyweds" (ages 18 to 22), concluded that they wanted their homes to look as unlike their parents' homes as possible. For them, Kroehler has developed its "In Group" line: sofas and settees covered in shiny vinyl, chairs and chaises longues in velvet and wide-ribbed corduroy patterned with polka dots, scrolls...
...light plane buzzed through the clear morning air above Kenya's Tsavo National Park. In the rolling bushland below grazed herds of zebra, kudu, oryx and hartebeest, swishing away flies with their tails. Suddenly, from the middle of a patch of thorn trees, flashed the white flick of an egret, constant companion of the African elephant. It was what the pilot had been looking for. He radioed the position to the ground, and within minutes a helicopter arrived. Two white hunters climbed out and disappeared into the tangle of thorn trees. There was a burst of high-powered rifle...
