...from sources including King Abdullah University in Saudi Arabia and the Carnegie Corporation in New York, more than two dozen institutions contributed content that covers nearly 200 countries. The result is the World Digital Library: a compendium of some 1,200 high-resolution digitized files that allows users to zoom in on ancient documents and archival photographs. The Library also contains a sophisticated search tool that allows users to browse by keywords, time period, place, type of item and the institution which contributed it. ...Galeano's book is a well-researched historical account and, while it does include quotes by Karl Marx, a left-leaning perspective does not rob the book of value. It's perhaps overly dense with fact after fact after fact - the author doesn't zoom out often - but the book still makes a convincing argument that Latin America was a victim of European and American exploitation. They abandoned the Kodak after half an hour...
...enough (and who could possibly want more than a candid of Beck’s mouth?), there are ticking clocks galore, people with white boxes over their heads, and one particularly hideous black and white minidress. To complete the head trip, lots of things spin around and zoom in and out of focus. It’s all so stylish and retro that by the end you feel it was more likely to be directed by the ghost of Andy Warhol than photographer Autumn de Wilde. This style is all part of the point, of course. What Beck seems...
