Monteverdi's last opera (1642) and his most affecting score, rich in musical compassion and credible characterization. The story, which might have trouble with contemporary film censors, tells how Poppea, Nero's mistress, ousts the rightful empress and triumphantly takes her place on the Roman throne. Going Nowhere. Dada got its start in Zurich, Switzerland during World War I with a group of rebellious young artists who thought the world was going nowhere. They were tired of war, booms and depressions, had no faith in religion and despised the self-conscious modern art of the cubists and futurists. As a protest, they made up their minds to be as disorderly as possible, and defiantly named their movement by simply plunging a knife into a French dictionary. ...have taken much advantage of this open invitation to stained-glass decoration. One notable exception: the 38-ft.-square window in St. Ann's Church at Normandy, Mo. (TIME, Dec. 15). A standout example of stained glass out of church is Max Hunziker's window for the Zurich Cantonal Hospital. Hunziker's creation, more than 18 by 11 ft., lights a spiral staircase leading to the hospital's main auditorium. It will soon be complemented by another window on an opposite staircase.
